Nanday Conure
I have a mature NANDAY, however, it seems as though everyone else has SUNS and they certainly dominate the threads.....

Anyone else out there with Nandays?????

I have never seen a Nanday at stores near me. They are not as common. I would love to see more people talk about theirs so I can learn more about them.

Not many people have Black capped conures on here so I just have to be happy with all the green Cheek thread. They are VERY Very simmular.

I want a Dusky Head conure for my second bird but I never see anyone talk about them. They are not flashy. I also love Golden Capped conures. Again Suns rule the conure world. Look at them they are SO pretty I understand why.

I'm a green cheek person, though I am also a big dusky fan! They are incredibly sweet. I've only met a couple tame Nandays. Man their wings are gorgeous. It's always interesting to hear stories of the species I haven't spent much time with.

I'll happy to share some info on Charlie my Nanday.

For an introduction here is a short bio and both Charlie and me.

Jim: I'm 76 years old and live in a small apt. I'm pretty much homebound due to health issues so Charlie and I spend almost 24/7 together, in the same room his cage is about 6' from me so we small talk a lot.

Charlie: I rescued him just over three months ago and was told that he was a male and 5-6 years old. Who really knows. He gets 8-10 hours of sleep daily, and when he gets up, does his megamorningpoop, he comes out of his cage and hangs out with me for an hour or two, starts his morning with cheerios those are his favorite snack. Then cuddles on my shoulder and sleeps another half hour or so before going back to hang out in and on his cage, door open so he walks around. Typically he gets out a couple of more times during the day while I'm doing chores.

Personality: He is very mellow and low key. Makes various chirps and screeches and only screams when he is startled or someone knocks on the door or he's pissed at me for not yet reading a particular body language of his. He is a good boy period! He steps up whenever I ask him to, the exception being when he doesn't want to get off my shoulder, then he does the middle of my back, you can't reach me here trick. He does not like to get off of me and explore new things, I would really like him to learn to do that.

Toys: He's not interested in very many toys and very very slow to accept something new. He has four toys in his cage and plays with all a little bit every day. His favorite toy seems to lunch bags opened up with cut up pieces of the bags inside along with a few Cheerios.

Bathing: We've tried an in the cage bath and all he did was drink out of it and poop in it. Then the bathroom sink and he will use it once in a while and more recently the kitchen sink and he is getting somewhat good with that.

Food: He has ZuPreem Fruity pellets as his main food along with fruit, he really likes fresh apples, no seeds. He won't eat kale, lettuce, peppers. I just bought some pasta I'll try him on.

I have some pictures of him but don't know how to post them?

This is probably more info than anyone wants, but you guys have been so good at giving me advice on other matters and I appreciate it.

Also elusive is the Painted Conure. I almost got one before I fell in love and put my deposit for a Hahns macaw. I know almost all the breeders in the east side of the USA, some in the west and north. Heck, I found some in Canada--- but I've only seen one on the forum and it was from 2014 I think.

Most conures are very similar, in fact the Painted was considered a mutation of a black capped for a long time. Pantagonians were almost classified as mini-macaws. Nandays are similar to the now extinct Carolina Conure (1920s).

Pictures! I desire pictures of all the beloved babies!

I love Nandays, but haven't had the opportunity to add one to my flock. We have a Green Cheek, Crimson Bellied, Sun, Jenday and 2 Blue-throated conures, I am kind of a conure fanatic.
I loved your introduction:)
Here is a link to help you post some pics, I would love to see pictures of your Charlie.
If you need any help, please don't hesitate to give me a shout:)

Nice thread, JRG. We too have a less common conure (Patagonian). It's good to learn about a representative of Nandays.
