Hi Everyone,

This is picture of Mr. Gogo. He came to me plucked, sick and with behavioral problems.

After 2 years, he lets his feathers grow before plucking them (he's bad like that)

When he got sick, he started to develop dark skin. His crop area has darken. It used to be pink.

Any suggestion on why it changed?

No idea why the skin turned dark, it seems concerning though. Have you talked to a avian vet

I would consult an avian vet, it could be a skin infection from the plucking or it could be skin cancer.

You may want to try offering pinecones for him to destroy instead of his feathers. It has helped to stop plucking in some birds. My Ruby loves to destroy pine cones, but she isn't a plucker, but she sure loves to destroy them. If you can gather some nice ones, then bake in the oven at 250 degrees for 20 minutes to kill any mold or bacteris or bugs, allow to cool and offer as toys or string up as a toy.

The vet said its from plucking. Like discoloration of the skin, But i am not so sure.

cbc didn't show anything. And he did have skin infection but we clear that.

I would have a liver work up done. I know liver problems cause skin discoloration.

When you say he was sick, what was he sick with ? Did an avian vet diagnose him with something ? I agree with d2page2, that a liver profile would be a good idea. But the picture looks to me like the skin is dark around the new pin feathers lower down also, that is what makes me think it could be a skin infection. Has he been checked for PBFD ? What type of diet is he on ? The answers to these questions may help us to help you more.

Vet diagnosed him with Skin infection. But he doesn't have it anymore
He was on antibiotics.

He doesn't have PBFD

he is on fruits and veggie diet. With seeds/nuts for treats.

He did have liver problems, gave him milk Thistle for a month and after his liver tests were normal.
