I currently have two Derbyan Parakeets (DJ and Dylan). Deejay has a very unique "crow" when he is happy or excited that we refer to as his "Watuzi". It is impossible to try to describe this sound. Dylan does not do it. Is Deejay the unusual one or is Dylan? Thanks....BB

Lots of birds have their own distinct calls or sounds they make. My male cockatiel does this morning call sometimes that my female never even attempts to try and copy. Sounds normal to me!

Thanks. We operate a rescue/rehome in Ontario, Canada so I am very familiar with exotic birds of all types. I was just wondering if anyone else's Derbyan does this? Cheers!

I probably have a video that I caught by accident, but it is so random and so quick that it's been almost impossible to catch by choice.

Probably not the right way to post a video, but I'll figure it out sooner or later. No Watuzi in this one, but a cheery morning greeting instead. https://t.co/rKYlNYVGza

looks like a cross between an indian ringneck and an amazon...?

Derbyans are part of the Asiatic species which does include Ringnecks. There is no comparison in the temperament or speech capabilities though, with Derbyans being one of the most even-keeled and sweetest birds I've ever handled. Their speech clarity can rival almost any. Very intelligent. Hands-down, my favorite species.

you have derbyan parakeets?
i cannot find barley any info on them and i have the oppurtunity to get one.
can you tell me about them!
it would be a great help !!!
i think they are so stunning and i am so fasinated by them buy finding someone that owns them and can tell me about their experinces is very limiting!

OP - I'm not much help - I've only just learned that Derbyan parrots aren't Moustaches! But I have two IRN's and there are a couple of sounds unique to one of them, I often search youtube videos to figure out if it's learned or by nature.
