Parrots
Lady Amaranthe ~ Eclectus
Hey folks,
My wife and I have been looking at an eclectus that is at a locally owned pet store in our area. We have been paying her visits almost everyday to see if she is a parrot that we would like to give a home too. While reading on the differences between Eclectus and other avian species that I have had experience with in the past I noticed how the diet is more demanding and particular for the Eclectus. My concern is this local store stated that she was "just weaned" and started eating on her own a couple weeks ago and that she is approximately 6 months old. They are feeding her "monkey biscuit" I am unfamiliar with food as I have never used in it the past with other parrots. I just wanted to get some feedback on whether or not this was a good choice by the owners of the store or if she is in dire need of a new home that will provide the correct diet. Thanks!

Thank you very much for the reference. If we decide to bring her home I'm sure that I will share!

My local exotic bird (only) store carries monkey biscuits so I suppose this is not too out of the ordinary. I have never tried feeding them to Chico. I doubt that even a diet solely of monkey biscuits at this age and short duration will have long lasting effects.
