Hey everyone! So i came across this ad on craigslist and this is a female electus but why is her color different from the normal female electus? I thought male is always green and female is always red, but the female i usually see are red and purple.. this one is red and green. Is it some type of mutation?

Yikes! Are we sure it's an Eckie? My first thought is major internal issues due to diet, but that would have to be pretty extreme.

I'm going with a mutation where yellow pigment is being produced along with the blue that is supposed to be there. Very cool!:p

Actually, some females do grow in some green feathers initially. But she should lose all that by her next molt.

That's the heaviest "greening" that I've seen, though.

And Dani, I have seen a female with even more extreme color variation than that due to diet, but her red feathers had turned shades of red and orange rather than the green you see here.

Perhaps it is intersex? I'm sure that has to happen in a very small portion of the parrot population.

That's a lot of baby greens, I think it's the most I've seen... (but I rarely see baby eckies, so I'm no expert.)

This is a baby. The green on the females usually goes away at first molt, just like the reds on the males usually goes away on the first molt.
