My son gets his cockatiel next month.I was thinking of buying a flight cage for on the front porch.Could the two be together out there for a few hours a day in the same cage or not?
If not I will just have to move cages in and out.Kind of a pain to do that with three cages.

Doris, although that will depend on the birds themselves really, sometimes I am surprised at the affection different species show each other...BUT...you would have to beware that things can go pear shaped. GCC'S can be very vicious to other birds as well & have even been known to kill.

I'm going to have to agree with Pedro. Sometimes birds of the same species don't like each other. You will find out I guess when the cockatiel arrives how the GCC reacts. Lately Pete and Rowdy are giving all kinds of positive signs they want to spend time together. I've been reluctant, worrying Rowdy will act dominant and Pete will return a bite and hurt her. I'm just playing things by ear so far, but keeping each bird protected as well.

And even when they are buds you may have to watch for jealousy hitting one of them in regards to the other. I had to bring Rowdy out second and put her away first so she wouldn't get jealous of my handling her BCC buddy.

Thanks. The way the little green chicken has been behaving lately I think it may be better to just invest in a couple of porch cages.Im in the process of redoing Pacos old cage. Its small but will be fine for a few hours on the porch.
Ive been searching craigslist for used cages too.No luck so far though..I dont want to pay a ton because they will only be used part time in nice weather.
