Kazi's beak has recently developed some square edges along either side. Is this something I need to be concerned with or just the way his beak is?

here's a rather bad pic, but you can see the little squared off part.

Are you talking about the upper part? i think chips like that are pretty normal. IMO (I;m not a vet)

Thanks, henpecked! I'm always appreciative of your knowledge and experience!

And yes, the upper bit. I just realized that it was a newish development and wasn't sure if it was a sign of any vitamin/mineral deficiency or not. Or otherwise anything I needed to be concerned with. Glad to hear you think it looks normal. His behavior, poop, appetite, et al is all normal, so I'll continue to remain unconcerned. We're probably going to pay the vet a visit soon anyway for chipping and a nail trim, so I'll mention it then too, just to be sure.

Im not vet either lol but id say the top of the beak where the squares are seem normal but if your still unsure you can always google search it to put your mind at rest

Does regularly get hard things to chew? Pecans, chicken bones, hard toys, etc? or do you think that might have happened on the cage bars. Keeping them supplied with hard chew things will help keep their beaks from having slender edges that chip like that.Of course things like that will happen when they want to attack something and take it out on their cage bars. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about.

He gets hard things to chew on, but of course, prefers the softer stuff like cotton rope and plastic straws! He's not in his cage much, but we have been in the carrier a lot lately and sometimes that can get him pretty wound up.

I'm glad it's likely normal. I think I'm just like a new parent, still all paranoid. I've calmed down about a lot of stuff with regards to him, but I'm still a little over protective sometimes!

That's OK, it's a good thing, PS i should have noticed him with the popcorn in your avatar, LOL

He looks good to me. Normal wear and tear and not excessively long.
