Do Most Zons Spend a lot of Time Upsidedown?

Zilla has always done the upsidedown flappy bat bird after her showers, but just the last couple days has started spending a lot of the time she is in her cage upsidedown playing with her toys.

Is this normal for zons? It seems like the blood would go to her head and give her a headache, but she doesn't seem to be affected by it.

Yes. It is entirely normal. Your bird is feeling better.

Well, lets just say one of Kiwi's nicknames is 'the batbird'. He's something of a large green bat. Sometimes he's holding on with one foot and the other foot/beak are occupied with a toy.

I think it's quite normal for zons actually Part daredevils, part vampire bats (for more than one reason:52::54

I tried to tell her she was gonna get a headache, but she just gave me that look like "if you're not giving me a treat or opening the door leave me alone"

And yes Birdman she is doing sooooo much better! She is whole different bird, and I can tell she is much happier!

I think probably the majority of parrot species probably love the upside down position? All of mine do it at least sometimes, and Griffin does it very often!
I love to see parrots hanging. I think its cute!

My CAG is my "bat bird." He hangs upside down by one toe and beats up three toys at once - but here's the funny part, just like a little kid playing with toys -
He makes the toys talk - AND THEY FEAR HIM!

"OWWW! STOP IT! KNOCK IT OFF! THAT HURTS! THAT'S TOO HARD!"

While bells jingle, and pieces of wood fall to the floor of the cage...

In his own mind, he's the big bad birdie! Be afraid... be very afraid.

(Oh, and just like a kid, once he figures out you are watching, he pretends it NEVER happened. You didn't see that...!)

I had wondered if it was an OWA thing. My DYH doesn't spend an abnormal time upside down, but my OWA sure does! When I brought him home for the first time he spent the whole ride home hanging upside down from the top of his cage.

My lilac crowned really doesn't. She's more a face in the food dish bird...

My Red Lored is very active when playing, and spends a fair amount of time upside down.

My CAG is part bat.

My macaws occasionally do it but not all that often...

Neither one of mine spend a lot of time upside down (only when crossing the cage). The white front though spends a lot of time with his face in the food bowl.

Well - I never experienced it until last week. And he is messy with his food. Yuk! But oh - he is a sweetie.

Every Zon or Eckie I have ever had has been an "enthousiastic" eater...

I fostered a female Eckie for a time that used to make this really loud "Airhorn" noise when ever she saw you eating something, and she wasn't being offered some. By the way, some people said the Airhorn noise was something they do naturally, and other people said it's something the bird picked up by being exposed to an actual airhorn. I never did figure that one out. She was a funny bird... bossy, but funny!

Pecker bird (my BFA) was also grossly overweight when I got her, and I had to put her on a drastic diet. I was told, when I got her, that her favorite food was - get this - BACON!

You know what...I will have to check when I get home. The blue front eats on the side of the cage and the white front eats at the front of the cage. Maybe I'm just not seeing the mess that the blue front is making.

It's not the mess. It's the enthousiasm with which they greet their food bowls...

None of mine have been picky eaters. The only picky eaters I ever ran into were the seed junkies.

Funny I wish Buddy would hang upside down but he doesn't. I've never seen him go upside down so here is at least one Amazon that stays upright.

My 'Zon Sammy will spend quite a lot of time upside down when he's feeling particularly happy & joyous...and also when he's particularly...um..(pardon the vernacular)...horny. Upside down seems to be his favorite position for paying "special" attention to his toys! As far as I know, when a 'Zon is upside down, it's a sign that it's a happy bird, not that there's anything wrong!

So the other night and yesterday...both Zons were showing off...upside down. And if they knew I was watching...they stopped.

My DYH only hangs upside down when she "feels like it" As with everything else. Sometimes I wait until she is completely upside down hanging on a rope toy and then I hurry over and tickle her tummy. She just play nips at me and doesn't turn upright, so that tells me that she likes it. What a nut!
