I’m here again.

Well, it’s a long time that I realised that Mambo takes his pellets, throw them in the water, and when there’s a soup he drinks it.
Does anyone’s else bird do that???

Yep pretty much all my birds make ā€œpellet soupā€ - my guys like to moisten their dry food and invariably end up dropping half of it in their water. From what I’ve read it appears to be pretty common!

I think the better questions is who’s bird DOESNT:)

Lol, Zenek has the same:D He throws different things there, when during his first days with us I noticed a carrot in his water bowl we also named it as a "soup":D

Very true!!! My GCC is the worst and I have to change her water and scub it several times a day..

My YNA makes soup all the time but not just pellets.
Bread is a noter favorite.

mine makes wood-chip soup with like...one pellet mixed in.

Oh well I see is not as weird as I thought!
That’s really interesting hahah

I think someone told Cairo about the stone soup story. He has a habit of taking toys (wooden blocks, 3D-printed calicubes, and other stuff) and putting them in his food box and his water bowl. I understand that he just wants to be able to keep them in a safe place or else they drop through the grating. But I don't think red food dye and soft wood flavoured water is the best idea of his...

But in terms of food, he doesn't get pellets, he prefers his dehydrated foods crunchy, and his chop is already wet, so he really only goes to his water when he's thirsty. When we did try TOPs pellets, he did dunk them, so I wonder if this behaviour is reserved only for driest of foods.

Yup, I can report that our Amazons have all dunked and/or created soup!

We have long ago added two addition dishes to HRH's cages. The additional dishes are for his storage of things that 'could' fall thru the grates. We place those toys, etc. in them and he added to the dishes when something he is interested in or working on, but has become to small - yes, he places it /them in is 'stuff' bowl(s).

haha, I also gave Cairo a stuff bowl, but he's just like a toddler - he takes his toys out to play, but never returns them to the right place! It's up to his parronts to clean up his room for him :p

Salty doesn;'t make soup ( hiw water dish is all the way on the orher side of his cage from his pellet and dry food dish, but he will dunk his foot toys in an outside the cage water dish, and then throw them to the floor.

I always knew Amy was "different"..no soup here just pellet dust

Jim

Both Addy and Fidget make soup with their pellets. All.day.every.day. and their water is across the cage from their pellets.

Parker’s dishes are across the cage too.

That doesn’t stop him...

As others have said it is very common. Just don’t leave it there very long. As soon as our birds have left it alone for a few minutes, I change it out for fresh clean water in a clean dish. Don’t want to wash bird dishes several times a day? Have multiple sets on hand. We have probably 10 sets of food and water dishes.

It’s funny to watch our goffins cockatoo drop a few pellets in her water, eat the ones that float, then fish around for the ones that sink to the bottom.

Clearly, your a member of the Been There, Done That Association of Parrot Owners!!! :D

Oh my god, my 2 Lovebirds do this all the time!
Our Masked Lovebird (Blueberry) will especially pick out the Buckwheat (she seems to really like those) to throw in the water. She eats half of them on her back (she uses her own back as a table) and the other half are thrown in the water to soak.

Whenever I change the water, I get some very angry chirping and a very disapproving look from Blue!

Lately, they've taken to dunking their strips of paper in the water as well!

It common as to soften the pellets as they will drop it in leave it in for a minute and then get it and eat it. All my birds pretty much like to make soup. Vegetables my female and male U2 will just hold it with foot and chew on it. My other birds have to chop it up in food processor for them to eat it.
