Does any one know why my birds do this

I have 3 green cheek conures. when they are all together they get along well. But sometime they do this. I don't know why?

Looks like hormonal behaviour to me.

Either that or they found an odd way to cuddle. The lighter-colored one is actually on top of the tail and below the wings, I noticed.

My blue crowns sometimes get all tangled up like that. They go head to tail, wings on the touching side over each other as they preen away at each other's backs or under tails. No hormonal behavior, at least on the female's side of things. She is elderly and too old for that kind of thing now.
