Eating poop

So what does it mean when Timneh eats her poop? She was hanging out on my shoulder and i noticed her butt was in my face then i realized what she was doing eating her poop off my back. I didn';t notice she had gone on me. Never seen her do this before. How bad is it that she ate some? I wiped her beak clean with a paper towel. Thank you for the help.

I posted this a bit ago and most of the responses were along the lines of improper diet / lacking certain nutrients. So I suggest going over Timneh's diet and doing some research on the diet of African greys. If you can't find a problem then I suggest possibly taking him to the vet and getting blood work done to see what he's lacking.

I haven't changed it yet honestly since it's still a recent thing but I'm actually at the vet right now getting blood work done for him and then heading to a local avian store and seeing what food they have, I'll let you know what I end up doing

So I won't get the blood test results back until tomorrow at the earliest Monday the latest, but I went to the avian store because I was told the owner knows ekkies very well. He recommended this food

At least I'm 90% sure it was this one. At the store they sold it for like 6$ per pound. I don't know how great it'd be for a grey, that's something you'd need to look into. He also recommended this primarily because Lincoln has feather problems which might mean he's lacking in vitamin A which seems to be a problem in ekkies but he also said it's commonly used with greys too so it might be worth a shot even if Timneh isn't having feather problems.

He said you only put the tiniest amount in, like just dip a toothpick in and no more than 1/8 of a teaspoon. But the bottle says 1/4th a teaspoon so it might differ for greys. He also said the bottle should last a long time like 2 years with only one dose a day (no overdosing) so I believe it'd be a good investment.

Oh and maybe next time you bring Timneh to the vet or something check to see if his nails are soft. While I was out Lincoln got a beak / nail trim and they said his nails seemed soft which might be a sign of a calcium deficiency.

I don't know what you're feeding Timneh so just trying to cover all the bases of what he might be deficient in based on my experience. You're free to try my suggestions but it might not work since Lincoln is an Ekkie and Timneh is a grey. Very different dietary needs but at least it may be a start.

Thank you for sharing that's great. I noticed nutriberries by lafever do not have a vitamins supplement so I've been trying to switch her food and add more vitamin a vegetables to her diet.
