Eclectus behaviour

Hello, my 7 month male Eckie is trying to instigate food from the bells in his cage, like the way that they instigate food from their mothers beak. Has anyone else experienced this behaviour before? Will it pass? Is this normal? I've had to remove the bells off the toys or I have repositioned them. He is very well fed with lots of fruit, vegetables and seed.

Perfectly normal, young eclectus are always hoping that everything has food in it and/or will feed them.

While my 10 month old has been moulting, he is ravenous. Will eat just about anything. If he's oit of his cage and someone grabs a snack. He flies right over and hangs over their shoulder and looks to see if he'll get a bite. I don't think that you need to remove the bells. He'll eventually outgrow this stage. He may just be trying to get to the clapper. I've had to get the indestructible bells for Mango, he removed the clapper from a regular one. He is now moulting his flight feathers, and becoming more irritable. But this too will pass.

I would imagine the behavior at that stage is normal.

May I humbly suggest using caution with bells; the internal "ringer" is a source of attraction for some birds who will remove them and potentially ingest bits of metal. I routinely remove the ringer and often the entire bell even though it spoils the fun and noise!!

AMEN!!! Those clappers have been known to kill birds. Always remove them to be safe.

I also agree with the other posts, here. Outside of the potential danger of the bell's clapper, there is really nothing wrong with your ekky's behavior. They just love to eat. All the time. Lol!
