So Ekko has started talking, and he has quite the vocabulary so far. Last night, he was saying something we hadn't heard before, kind of mumbling, and in a different voice than he has been using. The more he did it, the clearer he got, and we realized he was mimicking Slater and saying one of those curse words he says all the time (In fact, at Slater's other home this was his name). All I'll say is is starts with a and ends with e.
why oh why are the bad words the first thing they pick up?!? why couldn't he say Mommy like I've been working on with him?
Now I get the pleasure of being called names when I feed in the morning by 3 cursing birds..I think I will take it as a term of endearment:30:

Just like children, these guys seem to hone in on all the words we wished they'd never learned!

LOL! Ignore it and teach him better words, is all I can suggest :)

Good luck with being an a******e and all....;)

HAHAHAHA...I am so amused, thank you for the huge laugh!:D

My quaker says "millet!" and "what?".

Waking up to "A#&*?%E!!!" in the morning must be fun though. :smile012:

I'm sorry, but you really made me laugh! I wish I could hear all three chiming in. ;). What a way to start the day!!

I know that like kids, they pick up the bad words sometimes bc of the intensity they are said with. Makes it very interesting for them.

Hopefully Mommy will be the next word. :)

I am keeping my fingers crossed for that as well. They make me feel like a prison guard with all the name calling in the mornings!

That's one of the best things about rehomes ! [you never know what they are going to say]. My Blue and Gold was telling my daughters friends "I broke my arm" It was awhile ago" the funny thing is he came with a injured wing. It was almost like he was telling the girls about himself :)

That is too funny! It is so true, Slater is always saying something new (and usually sounds like a sailor). My husband and I will look at each other and say, 'Did he just say what I thought he did?".
He must be so impressed with himself that the other guys are imitating him:)

hahaha i know how you feel my lorikeet will cuss me out with everything he learned from his previous home and and then go on saying "i love you peekaboo" lol hopefully mommy will be next for Ekko!

LOL!! I just had a vision of your birds, marching up and down their cages, dragging a perch (that they'd ripped from the cage) along the bars, demanding food, calling insults and whistling at you! :18_crazy:

Oh my, is there a camera I don't know about in my bird room???? It's their bowls they are clanging along the cage bars, though!

Thanks for a good laugh, it must sound hilarious

Steven my son taught Mishka to say mommy is a lady of the night 4 years ago
Daily I am told mommy is a Wh.re
I try and ignore him when he says it.
Now he says mommy is a wh.re then afterwards says I am not a wh.re.
When they LIKE the way a word sounds they NEVER forget the word

Oh Ant, I thought what I was being called was bad enough! Why can't they say "Mommy is pretty, Mommy is smart"????
I would love to know how Mishka determined that he is NOT a wh.re.
Thank you right back for the laugh:)

LoL......that's just too funny......ekkies have a great vocabulary skill! I would watch carefully what you say around him. LoL....

In time your bird will begin saying mommy and so much more take my word for it.

It just takes time, patience and perseverance.

These videos of Mishka I am sure you will find interesting

Thanks Terry
If I can do it anyone can believe me, as long as your bird is willing to learn.

It took many many hours on a daily basis to get Mishka where he is today. Every day, no matter what day it is, he sits on my lap for an hour and we chat and play.

Make the session exciting and playful as I do, your bird will not even realize that he is in training.

Haha that is great! A friend used to parrot sit for some people over seas who had what she described as a huge dodgy looking bird (macaw I guess?) Called Rufus. The owners came home to discover Rufus now said "f**k off rufus!" Whenever someone came into his room haha
