Last night I decided to take Ember outside for the first time in a small travel cage. He has never really been outside before besides transporting to the vet. I recently acquired 11 unwanted bird cages and a few are perfect sized for travel so I decided why not let him get some outdoor experience. It was a really nice night out as it's summer here in Iowa and so decided to give it a try.

After some initial fear and flapping around for a bit I sat quietly with him and he calmed down and listened to the different new sounds around him like the wild birds. I think he enjoyed it quite a bit -- I included a video too and he makes his funny sounds :)

What a cute lil cockatiel, clearly enjoys the outdoors.

You can tell he really enjoys it, ive been planning on doing the same thing with my bird, just to see how he reacts. He sits most of the day looking outside the window from his window sill perch, so i can't deny him the experience of the outdoors with wind and everything anymore.

Did he take it this calmly from the beginning, or did it take some time for him to get used to?

Gosh he really is just soaking it all in :)

At first he did NOT want to get into this little cage. There was some initial flapping and fear but once I set the cage on the ground and sat with him he calmed down and listened to the wild birds. I’m hoping next tine we try he won’t be so panicked to get into the smaller cage.

Calm repretion is the ticket. Mayhap a bowl with a wee treatie in it? Though by the looks of it, the treat for this one is just being outside.

Beautiful face, looks as if he had a great time. Hopefully he will look forward to the next outdoor visit.

Very cute cockatiel, he looks exactly like my Pepper, even down to the coloring. Same I keep him in a plex glass carrier when outside due to hawk in area. Shame as he love to flies and never clipped him since a baby, but just don't trust the hawk. He get to fly inside.

She is very sweet

I do that a lot w/ Levi in the warm months since he is fully flighted. He isn't a fan unless I'm sitting right next to him. Plus, I stay w/ him for his safety. We live in a rural area and have a surplus of wildlife.

Last weekend he was on the front porch at our cabin. I ran in the house to go to the bathroom real quick, when I came back out there was a black bear on the front lawn. Needless to say Levi wasn't thrilled w/ his new acquaintance. I grabbed his cage & hubby held the door so we could get him inside ASAP.
It was quite the fright.....
