Hey guys!

I know this is a generalized question but I will be getting a parrot soon( I'm not sure what kind ) and I need to know what to teach him to keep him well behaved and easy to handle. I know the basc step up and step down command, but what else is there? Thanks! :)

Step Up
Come
Stay
Go to cage/perch

Any little "tricks" (turn around, wave, shake, big wings/eagle, etc) to keep their brain stimulated

Foraging

Lots of exercise!

Good luck on your choice, parrots are great when trained properly :).
Start with socialization. Introduce your new bird to healthy foods, new people (family, friends, the vet, groomer) and places, toys, and objects (cage, toweling, transportation crates).
Teach him to step up and down, when you say so. Go easily into his cage, play independently. Also be sure not to reinforce screaming. Screaming and vocalization are a natural part of as parrot, and essential to their well being. Just be sure to give him adequate attention so he won't scream excessively for attention.
Raising a gentle bird is a continuous process of guidance. You have to teach him that biting is not acceptable. Its normal for birds to play with their beaks, but you have to teach them how much beak pressure is to much. Once you set rules, stick to them. Above all, do your research and make a commitment tho the bird. Good luck :D.
PS, what birds are you considering?
