This Sunday will be our 6 month anniversary when Buddy came to live with us. Over the last few weeks he's been making new sounds and like he's trying to say something. Since we got him, he will say a rough Hello, wolf whistle and purr. He recently started doing a "come here" whistle, like calling a pet. Then two weeks ago he said "WOW" loud and clear, one time, that was it. Husband didn't believe me. Today he said to Husband, "What's Up?" I heard him from another room and ran in asking what did he say. Husband confirmed and was shocked.

Tonight we start dinner and Buddy start with his new whistle, funky sounds and I'm whistling back. I have been asking him since we got him, "Buddy, wanna kiss?" Then make three kissing sounds. He's tried to make the kissing sounds back. Tonight out of the blue, he makes the kissing sounds. I asked him did he want a kiss and he made them again, and again, and again. I am so excited, we were told he use to talk all the time and stopped after last October when his owner Rita passed away. Husband is mesmerized by it, this is going to be fun to see what he knows.

As someone on this forum said, rehomed birds are like a locked treasure chest, we just have to find the right keys to unlock them to see what's inside. I wish I remembered who said that, it is so true.

Well, I guess Buddy has a whole lot to say after all:D I'm so happy for you guys! Buddy seems to be blossoming in your care. It's just going to keep getting better and better!

Thanks for the inspiration.

Buddy is in a good loving home

He proved that by wanting to kiss you

You have been rewarded for your love and kindness

Thanks everyone. It was very rewarding today. I've read and been told be patient and it paid off with patience and persistence, gentle of course. Husband and I worked from home today so he got to see how our day typically goes like do not put people on speaker phone or Buddy will join the conversation by saying Hello at least ten times, lol. Good mornings, breakfast, chatter, whistles, throw food at the dogs (yes this has become a new habit), shower, more singing, scream because someone is eating and did not share, beat up kabob, and nap. I really love having as part of our family, he's great company and the more time he's with us, and the more comfortable, he keeps showing more of his amazing personality.

Your story is so inspiring!! My gus has been wit me almost 2 months...he gives nice kisses, does the "sexy whistle" and says one phrase over and over...4 syllables...not sure of the first 2 but last 2 are "over here"... started to tink he wont talk more than than that...but I am realizing that with more time, and trust, he may say more!! Thanks again!!

Thank you for sharing Buddy's sweet story. Re-home success stories always make me smile. I'm glad Buddy is doing so well and using his vocabulary.
