Every time I put my male on my shoulder, he really gets into preening my face. He is very gentle and sometimes it even feels good. But he does it a lot! He never just sits on my shoulder like my female.

What do your birds do on your shoulders? Does anyone else's ekkie really want to preen them? I should add that I have facial hair, so that probably entices him to preen, since it is there.

The only one of my flock that I allow on my shoulder is my green cheek. The macaws I only allow on my arm. My ekkie doesn't want to be on my shoulder, she prefers my hand.

Peta my GGC loves to pick at spots & moles on my neck, so most of the time I keep my hair down when she is on my shoulder. She however, does not like to preen my hair. She acts like it tickles & will try to make it go away.

Kokomo likes to preen my husband's face and rarely sits still on his shoulder. He preens his whole face and ears and my husband is bald so hair doesn't seem to be a factor for our Ekkie. He also tries to regurgitate food and feed him through his ear. :)

Kokomo will sit nicely on my shoulder and rarely preen me - just occasionally remove my glasses.

Must be a male Ecky thing, Jax won't sit on your shoulder, He wants to sit on your chest right in front of your face so he can preen your chin and lips etc. If you turn your head wanting to see around him your ears are next. LOL.. He's very loving and just likes placing his beak on you, or having a gentle preen but he wants to be there ALL the time.

I dont trust any birds on my shoulders. For one i cannot see what they are doing and sometimes you can forget they are there. Its not secure for them if you forget and just walk into a situation that csn be unsafe for them or startle them.

Pixel is very much obsessed with grooming my face (thank god I have no moles/zits/etc for her to try to remove). If I make her stop and set her in her bird tree, and she still believes I need to be groomed, she'll run back to me as fast as she can.

Lately, being as that its getting in to winter here (here being Northern Canada) my lips are quite chapped, and so Pixel has taken it upon herself to PULL THE DRY BITS OF SKIN OFF. Oh, pain.

My husband said Greenie was sitting on his shoulder yesterday cuddle right up to his head and licked his ear every now and then

That is funny, my bird does the same thing. He won't sit still in my lap, he will crawl up my shirt until he is right up in my face. He is not a big fan of being on my shoulder either, but he will go there sometimes. My female on the other hand will sit on my shoulder forever without even moving!

My Macau just puzzles my face and hair or makes kissing noises

Shrek used to do that... It just felt like a facial... I closed my eyes and let him do the works... He went all over my face, eyebrows, lashes, nose, lips... GOD, I miss that bird... I never got another quaker, but maybe one day I will...

Pip is the same, he started preening my husbands face first and we figured it was because of his beard. but he does it to me too, and yes it does feel nice actually! :D like a gentle facial scrub :D
Bandit has no interest in it, she's always very quiet when she's on shoulders, the odd time she'd gently nip on your clothes but nothing like pip. :)

My Quaker insists on being on my shoulder. He not only preens my hair but nibbles my ear and neck. I'm trying to figure out a way to make him stop.

It's a sign of affection. Like regurging.
