Growing up, my parents would take us to visit family in Florida and one of my uncles by marriage we would visit his family, being his parents and brother. They had no grand children so we got lots of special treatment there. They were fabulous people. They were from New York, brash with heavy accents, very loving, I loved visiting them. So did my brother and sister. Now, they were budgie breeders and had an aviary with lots of budgies so yes I was there as often as I could be. Their name was Hunter.

Growing up, my brother and I fought a lot. I'm the eldest, he's 5 years younger. When I say fought, it would come down to fists at times, he always started it!! And I committed the cardinal sin, when walking to the bus stop, I saw my brother's friend Billy sitting on top of my brother punching him and I removed him. I expected thank yous but got yelled at by my brother, lol!!! I was 13 and he was 8.

Now fast forward about 20 - 30 years. We are on good terms but on occasion, he says something that is just a jerk statement. Last month when I got Buzz, we were at a nice restaurant celebrating my sister's birthday and he said to me he was going to get me a sign that said "The Hunters" to hang on my door. It's been a long time since I got really angry at him and told him right there, "You are an ***hole. A stuck up ***hole." Why? He's gotten conceded, has an ostentatious house, he's always had to have the best and spend money. The Hunters were great people and treated us like their own. He loves telling my parents about what he thinks they are doing wrong. Last year Husband and I arrived at my parents for a cook out, everyone was there and when we walked in I asked who got a new truck? There was a new, Chevy 4x4, diesel truck with paper tags outside. My brother asked me how I knew it was a new truck. Um really? Well it turns out I revealed something he didn't want revealed to my Father. My father and brother had been arguing about trucks, power and pulling 5th wheels (large campers). Apparently my brother had told my Dad he wasted his money buying a Chevy 4x4, but turned around and bought one hisself, lolllll!!! Of course Dad rushed outside to see the new truck.

So my point here, Sunday we are having family over to celebrate Mother's and Father's Day. For the mothers we have flowers, and for the Dad's mugs. Here is the mug I got my brother, yes just to irritate him, lol!!! An excellent replication of my amazing Amazon Buddy, lol!!!

Well firstly I wish that Sunday will be a nice day for you and nothing spoils that.

Be content that you sound a very grounded young woman who is content in her own skin and radiates love to those around her especially the feathered kind. They are no fools who they choose to accept.

If you take the 'Hunters' comment as a compliment it kinda falls flat doesn't it? They sounded lovely people to have the opportunity to be around as a kid.

Enjoy the day!

Tracey, I love the mug! I hope you got a Buddy mug for yourself too! Thanks for posting your story. The Hunters sound like a couple anyone would be happy to know, I agree with
Plumsmum, you should take your brothers remark as a compliment even if that's not what he intended.

I hope your family celebration is a great day for everyone. You'll have to let us know how much your brother likes his mug!

Wish I had a mug with Monty on it. That would be an awesome Fathers' Day gift.

PS: Elisabeth, I'm guessing you're reading this, my Internet stalker of a daughter. Don't think you'll have time to get me one for Sunday LOL.

The wonderful part about family is that although you had no choice in selecting them, you always have the ability to remind them of their childhood and/or other 'events' as and when needed. Or, just smile knowingly at them.

Love the sweethearts, whether a couple or a bunch, after all their the ones you're there to see anyway!

Great Mug!

I loved your story Tracey :). I hope your family has a wonderful time at the Mother's and Father's Day celebration! I'm sure your bro will love the mug :D

And ignoring my brief thread jack, a co-worker and I were discussing the other day how our siblings can seem to bring out the worst in us.

Maybe you can also get him a toy RC truck to play with when he can't drive his big one!

LOLLLLL!!!! I love this idea!!! A few years ago his wife wanted to go see The Nutcracker Ballet and made him go. My brother is a Ricky Bobby kind of guy (Talladega Nights) so he kept cutting down the ballet and really hurt his wife's feelings. So I bought him The Nutcracker Ballet on DVD for Christmas. His wife cracked up, the look disgust on his face was priceless, hahahaha!!!!

Just make sue you find the same model in the same color. LOL.

Father's Day is over and our get together went well. My brother was so happy with his mug he left it at my house, lollllllll!!!!! I don't know who laughed harder, my sister or myself at his reaction. Now he HAD to interact with Buzz, his choice. He gave Buzz a pecan half, but he was so nervous about getting bit, but Buzz was excellent and gently took it, ate it and savored it.

The pecans I bought just for our get together, mainly for my father to give to Buzz and eat himself. There is a story behind that, when I was little, in the 80s, we visited a pet store at the mall and my father tried hard to get an African grey to step up on his hand. The grey didn't want to and fell to the floor. My father made sure he was OK and ushered us out of the store quickly, lol! He thought he had broke and bought a bird. He gets reminded of that story often but yesterday he got to meet and befriend Buzz.
