Chubby seems to be missing the #8 feather?
As far as I can tell it’s not like I can see it clipped, it just looks like it’s just gone. Perhaps one is growing in but it’s underneath but he attracted pretty far out & I don’t see anything.
He isn’t a plucker.

I don’t see one growing in its place either.
It’s hard to get him to stretch his wing.

I see it when he stretches his wings on his own. It’s the same on both sides.
He has his first vet visit coming up this Friday, only 2 more days.
I will find out then for sure what’s up with it.
I’ve had him for 4 months & it’s been there since I’ve had him.
His previous medical history I do not know due to him being a rescue & I received him from a home that was a bit neglectful.

What do you guys think?
Will it ever grow back if somehow that one was injured previous to my care?

Maybe I’m just overly concerned?
Thank you!

I mean I guess it’s possible he could have a damaged or missing feather follicle.
If it would’ve grown back, it would’ve done so by now.

Is he missing it on the other side or just one wing?

I seriously hope that it grows back & there was no major damage.
We will see at our vet visit! 🦜

My YNA went through a heavy mold just recently and the Twins have been loosing feathers since Bingo stopped loosing so many.
It”s that time in the northern hemisphere.
wing feathers generally fall out symmetrically and throughout the year.
If Chubby has been chasing people around as per your earlier post he could easily have lost some wing feathers.

As stated by my good friend above! Amazon molt their Flight feathers though the year, but always in pairs (right and left) and if the health is good, up to a total of four (two per side). This allows them to have more than enough lift to fly. Separately, they will molt out their tail feathers in sets of two (again right and left side of the tail feathers.

With your Amazon recently coming to your home, the timing may have stalled a bit, but by August, there will be a new feather in that spot!

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, Amazon Snow Season is coming soon as your Amazon will over the next couple of months, you will return home to find what looks like your Amazon had a bunch of friends over and had a downy and both feather party!

See the Amazon Forum and the second sticky Thread that is Titled: I Love Amazons ... and open it to the first page and look for: Help, my Amazon is Falling Apart or something like that. It will cover the molting season. FYI: This will repeat as Fall /Winter arrives and they set their best feathers in advance of Hormonal Season.

Wow, I don’t think Kirby’s ever molted symmetrically, but the vet said his feathers are fine. Someone please come tell my silly bird how to molt properly!

That being said, my old guy molts weird and he has gone with empty feather spots for weeks at a time before I see a new one peeking through. It always seems to sort itself out.

I suppose its possible for a bird to be missing certain feathers from "birth" like a congenital defect in the eighth flight feather follicles.

THe key is that the same feather is missing on each side. That means perfectly normal molt. Like 'Boats said they molt evenly , left and right.
