I'm not sure what the specific term it is called but when a bird flaps its feathers it gives off this powder substance. I was just wondering between the citron-crested cockatoo or any known cockatoo that has the least amount. If anyone has any information about this please let me know. Thank you!

They are not recommend for persons that have allergies or breathing issues as they are quite dusty. That is one reason I went with an Eckie as they have oil glands and not dust glands.

Look at this link for basic information.
Parrot Link - Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo

I hope this helps.

Well all birds give off feather powder also refered to as dander, but Cockatoo's, Cockatiels and African Greys are known as "powder down" birds, most all hooked billed birds have an oil gland, with the exception of amazons and a few macaw species, but the too's, tiels and greys in addition also secrete a fine powder to also help with feather health, the best answer would probably be, the bigger the Too and the more they preen, the more dander there will be, not sure if that helps, but that would be my take on it :)

The bird dander has been fairly easy to control with a rabbit air purfication system. Just another expense in a long line of expenses with our birds.

Hi, can you please tell us the name and brand of the rabbit air purifier? My husband has asthma and we need to get one of those (:

The smaller the bird the less dander... so, in the cockatoo family, the cockatiel has the least amount...

Bathing helps with the dust.

Unfortunately powder is what you want in a cockatoo, the healthier the cockatoo the more powder they have. Nightly misting and cage cleaning can help with the white dander.
