How do I know if zippy moulting or plucking ? The last few day I've noticed he is loosing a few of his blue feathers there was another 2 at bottom of cage just there a couple yesterday to should I be worried ?

He around 6 and I've had him about 5 month now

Well having him less than a year you would not know if he does this every year (molt)

Can you contact the previous owner and ask them?

She said he was moulting when I got him but he hasn't lost one since got him till now

Generally speaking, when a bird goes through a molt there will be no balt spots.

(saying that, ringnecks and eclectus can go through such heavy molts they look like crap! but then they feather out nice again!)


If a bird is plucking, generally bald spots will appear where feathers are missing.

Well zippy is now walking across my curtain pole but has lost another 3 feathers they are all different sizes so not from same place is that a good thing ?
