Finally getting my Grey!!!!!!

I am so excited I am finally getting my African Grey!! We are meeting the lady to get him saturday. She runs a small rescue out of her home and I feel in love with this little guy and his story while talking to her.
She actually got him and a female grey from a lady that was trying to sell them as a proven pair for 1000$. When she went to look at them they where lock in a very small cage in the lady's basement, she said the conditions where horrible. There where no perches so there feet where horrible and there beaks where really long. She took them to the vet and they checked out good just need a few more beak trimming to get it back to normal and some tlc and good food. He can not be touched yet and does not trust people( i wonder why) but she said he has come a long way in the month she has had him. He comes out and sits on the perch on top of his cage all day and now says hello. I really think I could give him a great loving home for the rest of his life and we would get along great. I am so excited to get him.
Ohh also his band says he was wild caught, so they think he is about 20.
Also he needs a new name, she is calling him twitch because when you talk to him he kinda twitches his head but I dont like that name.

Congratsulations. I have an African Grey Female that I found on Tuesday. I was looking for an extra cage for the rescue cockatoo and saw someone selling one as part of their sidewalk sale. I stopped and asked about the cage and it was filthy. They said $20 and I asked if all the parts were in the box in the cage. They replied no its the bird and you can have it. I asked why the bird was out in the cold like that and they replied they didnt want it anymore. Needless to say, I took everything home. She is a female CAG approx 6 years old. She sits odd - her head rests on her back as if she is always looking up. The bird groomer said she might have calcium deficiency. I took her to the vet and he said the bird is healthy from what he can say with good weight and feather. He ran some bloodwork for lead poisioning. He thinks it could be neurological but the bird looks healthy otherwise.

Actucally I now think I am getting the female Rexie. The person that was getting her backed out. She is younger they think around 10 and feathering is better. She is the ones in the pics without the leg band.
Also I think its ment to be because i said if I got a female i was going to name her Roxy, the names are so close.
Also got a cage today, just have to order the bottom try so we are going to have to make something work till it comes in. The cage is used, the lady said she threw it out cause it was rusty. But the cage is in awsome shape, we just got done washing it.

Hi, congrats on getting your new bird. But I have a few questions:

Where are you located?
How much are you paying for the bird?
Are you sure about the bird being wild caught?
How handlable are either or both of the birds?
Do you have any previous bird experience?

The reasons why I ask these questions are, wild caught birds are usually used for breeding and aren't hand tame. If this is the case, I'm not saying it's impossible to tame a wild caught bird, but it is very difficult and take a long time. Also older birds become set in their ways just like humans and develope bad habits that may not be accepted and can be hard to break. I'm not wanting to rain on your parade, but just making sure you are really prepared to accept what you may be getting. I would ask the current owner to handle the bird in front of you to show that the bird can be handled without fear of being bitten. A bird the size of an African Grey can bite a finger off.

Actually I am getting the younger female and she was not wild caught ( the lady that was going to get her was denied because she has cats). She is a lot tamer but will just take a little.
Yes I do have experience with birds, I rescued a cockatoo about 6 years back, when I get her you couldn't even get near her cage, it took a few months and a patients but she got better. Before she passed she would go everywhere with me, and knew tons of tricks.
I am located in lower michigan and I am only paying $150 for the bird. The lady runs a rescue and she just does it for the love of the birds and finding them good homes. She gave me referiences and I have been talking to her for awhile now. She is just charging me what she has into the bird in vet bills.
