Finch eggs...

Hey all! I recently adopted Johnny and June, an adorable pair of zebra finches. They're around a year old, and have decided they want to lay eggs. In their food dish. *facepalm* I know that 3 of their 4 eggs aren't fertilized (I just found a new one this morning and didn't have time to check before I went to school). I don't want a bunch of baby finches to take care of, so I was wondering if I left these unfertilized eggs in with them, will they stop laying more eggs? And how often do they lay eggs?

If you allow them to incubate they will hatch. They're VERY prolific breeders trust me. One batch done they'll start another, soon enough you'll have an army of them. Best thing to do is to discourage them by not letting them lay eggs in the food dish. It isn't a easy task I know. Either that or just separate the pair.

I'd say switch food bowls to something they can't sit in, like a silo feeder.

They're quite persistent but changing to that type of food dish will stop them from laying in the dish but she'll go to the bottom next.
