We have a propane fireplace that works when the electric is out. I assume this year it can't be used because of the bird right? I didn't read if propane fireplaces were harmful but I thought I saw something about the fumes. The propane is hooked up to our furnace and it's already kicked on this year but it just creates heat but I don't know if I could use the fireplace because of the flame???

We've came up with a solution to this problem. We don't want to risk Pearl's life, and that stove hasn't been lit in about 4 years because we haven't needed it so I'm just fretting. We decided we'll get a genereator that can power some things.

Gosh, I hope not. I've been using mine for years. It is ventless, which means when co2 builds up, it wont light. I dont think they are dangerous in a well ventilated area.

We'd probably use if it got really cold but it hasn't been lit in so long it would need cleaned and what would it emit after being lit for the first time in that long? It has monitors on it where it shuts down if carbon monoxide levels exceed a livable level. As soon as the electric would go out(I'm worrying because it always does in the winter here)I would take Pearl in the bedroom, cover her cage with a towel and shut the door. Unless we get a generator then that's a different story...

what about regular gas fireplaces? Are they safe to operate for a bird? Ours is just operated by a lightswitch on the wall.
