Sun Conure - Mango
I was thinking about getting a flight suit for my sun and I was wondering if anyone has had any success with a similar sized bird. His wings were clipped when I got him so he can't fly, but I'm still not letting him out unless he's on a harness.

Also, could someone recommend a good brand of harness?

I know a person on another forum who using a flight harness on her sun. He was less than 1 year when they started getting him used to it. He is just starting to fly. I think they got it from My Safe Bird Store online. Dont know the brand. I want one for my amazon, little intimidated getting him used to it. He only allows handling on his head or feet. He really bites hard when threatened. Good luck

I am also looking to get one for my amazon, and the baby grey. I am wondering how my amazon will handle it. He will lay on his back, but never for very long.

I have the FlightSuit harness/diaper for my amazon; she HATES it. (glad I got it on clearance...)

It is VERY awkward to put on, she won't even let it near her now (followed the directions for introducing it to a T and nothing)

I've been thinking of trying the aviator since it looks easier to get on and doesn't constrict so much, at least to get her use to it, but given my success with the flight suit I'm having a hard time shelling out the cash for it.

Anyway, the flight suit requires that she put her feet through some straps, then her wings through the same area and velcrows in the back.

IF I can manage to get her feet through I'm always afraid of breaking feathers tryin to get her wings through (never done it successfully).

I've since given up because she's molting and has lots of pin/blood feathers I don't want to break.

Bongo has one. We started by introducing the harness to him slowly. First by hanging it over his back, then putting his wings into it. This went on for a few weeks. Eventually he would let us put it on but would bite at it and clearly didn't like it. On Sunday we took him outside for a walk and all of the distractions made the harness not so bad. He enjoyed it a lot I think. He is still pretty young (8 months), but trusts us alot so I think that helped.

The harness we bought had an instructional DVD which had a few good points. The brand is "The AVIATOR Harness." Pictures are attached.

Would definitely recommend Aviator, it's one of the safest harnesses and has no fiddly bits of clasps that can come undone etc, so many pro's about it.

I've used it on my /large/ budgies and as much as they didn't really like wearing it, Bruce was distracted when he was outside.

Enjoy some pics of Brucie boy!

I have a flight suit for River. Have been slowly trying to get him used to it. He's not exactly thrilled with the idea yet, but I keep patiently letting him get used to it.

Bruce HATES the harness... or well, just the buckle on it, but once he's outside and playing around he doesn't mind it too much. Was just one of those "c'mon bruce, grow a pair!"

But because he is so small the harness isn't actually that ideal, but was nice for Bruce the few times we used it, I'm sure my sennie's will (when it arrives!) get much more use, especially as we're getting the flight line with it. :)

The aviator is definitely the best in my opinion. once you get it on your bird and they understand that the harness equals outside time it will get easier but like everything else with birds it takes time and patience.

I was going to get a feather teather for Pi. Does anyone have any experience with those?

I have the Avian Fashions one (FlightSuit) and Lucy is getting used to it... she prefers her little cape though haha but that's not safe to take her outside in. She seems pretty open to just about anything so FlightSuit training is going well

I got the Aviator and I'm really disappointed in the "how to put it on" dvd that came with it. The guy advocates holding your bird in ways it DOES NOT LIKE and counting to three until it just learns to deal with it. Watching that bird try to get away while he held both wings up was so sad! Heck no I'm not doing that to my bird! We're using a combination of clicker/target training, but it's slow going.
