Last Wednesday I babysat the shelter and was gone from Wednesday til Saturday around noon. Apparently he screamed(human language not bird) for me a lot after Thursday and I still wasn't back yet. Would call when he heard a noise or the door opening. He mutilated his shoulder/neck badly.

So almost a week later and he is perfectly fine. Though he has been a little skittish and quiet. However, he has left his shoulder alone all week and is healing up nicely:) Today was the first day he really seemed to want to come out of his cage for awhile. I took him out before today of course but he was pretty eager to go back and relax in his cage. Today he is playing with toys and torturing mother while at the kitchen table and right now on the couch with me:D:54:

Luckily he didn't also pluck and still has some new feathers coming in once again. I actually think he is starting to molt. Lost a bunch of big feathers recently.

Some pics of him and his basket while on the couch with me right now:)

You can see a bit of the scab in the one pic. The rest of it goes up his neck and is hidden by the feathers.

I am so glad Folger is doing better. It's fantastic that he stopped as soon as you came back home.
Wow, he loves you so much, it's like he was waiting for you his whole life:)

Poor folger ! im glad he is doing better . im sure he is very happy you are back home and with him .

Most definitely believe that Terry! There had to be a reason I couldn't stop looking at the frayed looking cockatoo on petfinder for a year:) And I didn't even like cockatoos back then!

Michelle he definitely seems happier and not as desperate as when I first got home:)

nope not desperate anymore, back to his usual nutso demonic self... and for anyone who doesn't know, that's a good thing :)

He may have had this little setback, but I can't believe how good Folger is looking:eek: I know he's still mostly bald, but the feathers he does have are so nice and clean looking:D And you can just see it in his eyes in those photos he is a content baby.

I almost don't see what happened as a setback, he was just so unhappy that his Victoria was missing. Maybe an episode of depression. As soon as she came home, it was like life returned to the little bugger. Terry is so right that he just loves her so much and for whatever reason, I believe he has spent his life waiting until his path with her crossed. Not good news for my fingers or my behind, but what is meant to be will be.

His feathers do look so much better... the bad news tho, he probably won't regrow much of anything on his chest. The vet said some of the damage is so significant, she could actually see that the follicles are gone. So, looks like he may always be a mostly bald little chicken boy. But his head looks great :)

Hey his neck and back feathers are coming in! Plus, under his wings.... Maybe his chest will stay a little bald but the rest has new feathers...

Isn't it heart-rending to see their poor little plucked-chicken tummies and realise they did it out of sadness? Folger is an absolute sweetheart and I hope he does get his neck and back feathers again soon. Victoria, do you knit? Maybe you could knit him a nice soft sweater to cover his nakedness and give him a bit of dignity? Or make him a sock buddy out of an old sock? I'd love to make some kind of T-shirt for Dommie, but he'd eat me if I tried to put it on him. :22_yikes: If I ever do, I'll let you know how it goes. :)

With a little luck once you've done a few stays away he'll realise it's not the end and you'll be back sooner or later, and next time he'll get less stressed. And he looks great - I saw far uglier naked bellies last time I went to the beach!
