Hello. I just wanted an opinion on bird adoption. I'm an experience bird owner and know the responsibilities of owning a bird. I also know, that as a 20 something halfway through university and an unknown career path and an eventual reality of wife and kids and ect. I am not 100% capable of being the forever home of a pet parrot. I have never bought a baby bird and will never plan too. However, I ask this question...
If I can't promise a forever home, but can adopt a bird for at least some time (at least a year or so) and give it all of the love/attention/nutritional things it needs, is it worth it? There is the chance that my life might work out and I will be able to be a forever home, but it also might not be. What do you guys think? Is this year or more better spent in a sanctuary or in a home? A couple things to keep in mind:
-The bird would be fostered, meaning that other people who are more interested of providing a forever home could still come and visit, and if its the right fit, will be able to adopt permanently
-The bird will be guaranteed a spot in the sanctuary, so that once I can no longer properly care for him or her, they will have somewhere to go.
-I live in a large family, and thought it is inevitable that a bird will bond to an owner eventually, efforts would be made to try and reduce this stress by sharing attention.
What do you think?
