Friending fellow bird people

Hello everyone,

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so I just put it in the Conure section since that's what I have...

I live in Michigan and would like to meet some local bird people. As much as I love the forums, I'm really looking for a "birdie mentor." I'd love to meet someone (or multiple ppl) who could hang out, talk birds, give advice, etc.

When I start gushing about my love for Punku, my friends just don't get it. Where do you guys meet other bird people? Bird shows? Bird groups?

Is there a place here on the forum that is broken down per state or major city?

I too would like to meet up with people,but where I live there aren't any people for miles and even less bird people

Do you have any really nice bird stores in your area? You could possibly meet some people in the store. I am trying to think where i have met other bird people: bird stores, bird hospital, friends of friends, and it seems like once the word is out that "she likes birds", someone will know someone and want to introduce them. That being said, i have never had any regular contact with any bird other than my own, because no one close to me has birds.

I used to know some in my area and I had met them through the local pet store. They closed years ago now and I lost touch with people or they moved away. I wish we had a local bird group. There's one a couple hours from me but none of the people really live local.

I KNOW there have to be people with birds around, but I never see them.
