Hi! I am a sophomore high school student -- my family and I are owned by an adorable green cheek conure (and an almost completely outdoor kitty--we take care of her well; we began taking care of her when she lived outside, and she just doesn't like being inside). We are considering getting another pet; I suggested rats, but my mother wants a dog. I am wondering if anyone can give any feedback on if either of these is a good idea. We give Jade as much attention as possible, and I am concerned whether getting another pet will decrease this amount.
I also wonder how safe having a bird-and-rats or a bird-and-dog combination of family members is.
It would be nice if someone who has had experience with birds and other pets could give feedback! Thank you. :rainbow1:

I have many pets along with my caique, and so far I haven't had any problems. I have a rabbit, dog, and cat in the house, and for the most part I just keep them separated. The dog is downstairs, cat is in another room from the bird, and my bird and rabbit pretty much ignore each other. I'm guessing that's how a rat would be, too. As for a dog, it depends on how active it is and whether or not he/she likes to chase things. My dog is a retriever, so I absolutely can't have him out with my caique, but I've heard of some people who have dogs and birds that get along perfectly. I just keep mine separated. As for attention, you just have to spread your time out among all the pets. :)
