Hello guys, I have a galah cockatoo aged around 2 years.
I got him with his wings clipped, and i want him to have them back.. Ive had him for a out 6 months now, and he shown no signs of the slightest molt.. My cockatiel has molted 3 times in the year i have him, and i was wondering how often is my galah suppose to molt. He and the cockatiel live in the same room under the same conditions..
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi there ,
It takes about a year to a year and a half depending on the bird and food your feeding. The smaller birds seem to go much faster . My conure moulted twice in the time it took for my Grey to get his flights.

Yep, it's all up to the individual bird, but typically you'll see a large molt once a year, maybe twice, it all just depends, whereas the smaller parrots seem to go through small molts all year round and then have one or two large ones...

Have you had your Galah to a CAV for blood-work yet? I'd start there though, because there are a lot of nasty Avian Viral Diseases that cause a halt in their molting and also cause feather growing issues, and that can be totally asymptomatic for up to a year or longer...That's why you always want to have a Wellness Exam with a Fecal Smear and complete Blood-Work done once every year by a Certified Avian Vet or an Avian Specialist Vet...But as far as the clipped-wings fully growing out, it's probably going to take at least a year, if not a bit longer...
