Hey guys this is all new to me. I live in Australia. I have a male galah named Andy. i believe he is about 2 years old. I was just wanting to know your thoughts on getting a female alexandrine for company? My dad had before one of both and they got on like two peas in a pod. Just wanting to know your thoughts :)

Hello alpep and welcome to the forum. :)

I dont' see why it wouldn't work adding a female Alex to your flock. I wouldn't necessarily put them together though.

Sometimes it's possible that 2 different birds get along GREAT, but it's also possible that you'll end up with a big fight and severe injury or worse, unfortunately.

Thank you for that. Would you recommend another bird that would get in well with him?

I think it all depends on the individual bird, rather than the species...
Galahs seem to get along great with corellas, but again, it all depends on the individual...

Would getting another bird as a baby be better for him so he can show that he is the dominant one?

Andy is a laid back bird but he doesn't like males. What temperament does a sun conure have?

No, unfortunately you will never have a guarantee that your 2 birds will get along. It's a hit or miss, even if you get a baby.

As an example, my close friend had her male Galah for under a year and decided to buy another one (a female). She's tried everything you can think of, but those 2 just don't see eye to eye and don't get along at all. She can't even let them out at the same time, as a fight would break out.

Get a bird for yourself :) Don't let them share stands or cages, and just see how things go. If they end up getting along great, that is fantastic, if not you have another wonderful parrot. Even if they do get along they still need their own cages.

I have a galah and a new African gray who I adopted on the 14 of April, they don't get any physical contact but I do hold them near one another(about 2 feet apart) so they can check each other out. I make sure there is no way they can touch, Rosie tolerates other parrots but can be a little nippy with them.

Galahs have tiny beaks(around the size of a sun conure), Congo grays and Alexandrine's have massive beaks in comparison and the galah will not be able to protect themselves.

I think it's fine if you get a galah, but be careful and remember it's fine if they are keeping one another company from a distance

What do you think of a jandaya conure? Are they a nice bird. I have heard they are intelligent and like to copy a human. I am thinking about getting another cage but putting them next to each other
