Hello everyone!

My name is Kim and I'm from NSW Australia.

I am the proud owner of a female galah named Meisha. I got her from a bird resecue about a year ago. Previously to being rescued Meisha had a loving home with a lady, until that lady found a partner. The partner was very abusive to wards meisha, and she became a very anxious bird. Because of her anxiety, she bit her owner one day. From then on she neglected Meisha, and took her to the vet to be EUTHANIZED!

Luckily the bird rescue took Meisha in. After finding a severely ill lorikeet, I contacted the bird rescue and took the lorikeet to them. While there, I met meisha for the first time. She was in avery small cage in a back room. My hubby instantly fell in love with her. The rescue said they had been trying to find a home for her for over a year, but no one would take her because she was so scared all the time. Whenever someone would go nearthe cage she would flutter around and hide up the back of the cage.

A few days later, Meisha was ours (for free!).

She was meant to be my hubbys bird, but unfortunately she is terrified of males in particular. I decided to give her a shot and began talking to her everyday.

I am now the only person meisha trusts. I can do just about anything with her. She loves scratches more than anything, and constantly follows me around trying to get some. She also loves cuddles and kisses (no saliva!). I can lift her wings and pat her all over her body. She has come a long way since we first met!

We are nowworking on some training, including getting her to wear a harness.
Initially I had her on all seed diet with some vegetables, but have progressed to a high vegetable and fruit diet, with a few sunflower seeds as a treat.

In a few days my hubby will be getting a male galah named max. Max is a real character, loves to talk and dance. We arent looking to breed them, but hopefully theywill get along as friends. They willbe kept in seperate cages.

Hopefully I will be able to post pictures soon!

Welcome to the forum. Great story, thanks for sharing. Congrats on both your bird and your new to be bird:)

That's awesome she likes you so much :) try harness training her, Rosie was very scared of children but I started taking her out all the time and letting her see new things and it helped a lot with socializing her.

Do you have any photos?
