My daughter is finally starting to get the bird bug (12yrs old) and we have had parrots her whole life. Well she is looking into a GCC as "her" bird. Having bred mutation peach faced love birds in the past, I honestly DID see some differences in the different color varieties. Green based seem more outgoing, "aggressive", independent and the blue series were calmer, more people friendly, easier. My very first green PF lovie is actually the only lovebird I have ever heard talk... she would say "Kissy" (her name was kisses). Anyway. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to the various colors and personalities of the green cheek conures? She loves playful, friendly, active. Not too loud would be good. Talking ability not important, but something she can handle and would potentially be able to be handled by her siblings and friends even after maturity would be good. Thanks!

In GCCs there is no color/personality connection. Different breeders disagree and claim there is, but all of those breeders claim different things. (Turquoise are the loudest, another claiming they are the quietest, etc). I believe this is because a lot of personality is inherited and some people mistake the fact that THEIR birds of a certain color (being related) are all one way with the idea that ALL the birds that color are a certain way.

However you may notice that some blue series GCCs are slightly larger than their green series counterparts, but I have observed this trend in lovebirds and Irns as well.

I have normals, ys, turquoise & pineapple. They all have different personalities just like you and I differ. However they are all sweet. It's more about getting to know the chick you're looking at.

All birds have different personalities that is for sure. 2 birds of the same kind can be total opposites.

I have this Idea that Green cheeks of the fancy color morphs are "line-bred" and this causes them to be a bit less wild. Than say your natural Green cheek. They are in a way more domesticated. Since all Green Cheeks have be bred in captivity for a long long time most are pretty sweet. So it comes down to bird personality.

I have found personally the pine apple green cheeks to be less nippy but that is just me meeting many birds at stores. I have to play with just about all the green cheeks I see.

I have a very plain jane cinnamon who has the best personality in the world. I wouldn't change one single thing about her. She is a velcro bird but she is also auto drive. I don't think she has every really misbehaved in her life. Oh, she might chew on hubby's ears sometimes but that's because he has funny ears. :) Oh, and I think for some reason she is super super small. Not sure if birds have runts, but if she was a dog she would have been the runt of the litter.

My Kyo is a common GCC and she is amazing! So much personality.
