Sun Conure
Hello everyone.. I have been debating for quite some time on whether or not to get my Sun Conure a friend.

I do not want a second conure as I don't think I would have the time to give both conures attention. My guy demands 6-8 hours a day of nonstop play.

I was looking into getting him some company while I am at work or in class. I was looking at getting a solitary bird that would not require a lot of one on one attention. This search continually brought me to a canary.

Does anyone have an opinion on a canary as company for my Sun? The canary would never be allowed near my Sun in fear of him hurting it. I can't find any information on diseases that canaries could possibly transmit to my conure.. Any ideas on this? Thank you all!

Why dont you consider something like an Indian Ringneck? I dont believe there as demanding as a sun conure and they're about the same size:) i would think that would be good? and when they learn to laugh they sound like elmo:) Sorry i dont know anything about canary's though..

Thank you so much! I will read up on them! I bird sat for a friend recently and my Sun LOVED calling to the little parakeet.. I didn't want a parakeet, however, because they enjoy being in pairs and I do not have enough room for my Sun's two cages as well as another huge cage for a pair of Keets.

That is why I was thinking a canary, but, I was worried they might possibly transmit diseases to my Sun or something.

I breed canaries, and they are beautiful. However I think your sun would look at that little canary as lunch, it also might sit on top of the canary cage and frighten him.

my conure LOVES our senegal.

Thank you so much! I didn't think about my sun climbing all over the canary cage (which I know he would do!) I think I will look into a bigger, less demanding friend for him. Thank you both so much!

Alexandrine are independent parrot, they don't need A LOT of attention and will be happy to play with toys and other parrot, but they do love to be around you.

And what about a cockatiel or a parrotlet? They are good choices too.

My first birds were budgies and two are no more bother than one. Mine had a cockatiel size cage with close bars. I love their 'chatter' but they aren't loud. Bigger than canaries too!

I think any small bird that will sing/talk to your conure will be fine...

I have a spanish timbrado canary whom I have had about four years. I also now have three small parrots. when one of the parrots goes on top of the canaries cage which does not happen very often the canary just moves away from that side so it is a non issue. I love the sound of him singing. and remember it is the males that sing. the canary doesn't come out and I keep hoping they will pick up his song but no such luck:D. I do think they all keep each other company. I vote canary:D:)
