So this Friday I am getting a handfed GCC and I am very excited but I want sponsoring if anyone had any last minute tips or information on getting a new handfed conure ?

Congratulations.....but you do realize that handfed does not necessarily mean hand tame.....

Good luck.....

I agree - don't be discouraged if your hand-fed GCC is a little scared of you at first. My GCC was terrified. It took some time for her to come out of the cage, let alone want to be handled by us. So just be patient and gentle. If she does seem scared, just leave her alone for the first day or two besides changing the water and food and maybe talking quietly to her a bit. Once she's settled in try offering her seeds through the bars of the cage. (sunflower seeds make good treats - although they aren't very healthy)
This was just my experience, every bird is different. Good luck!! It'd be nice to hear some updates once you bring your bird home.

Just wondering, are you picking up a greenwing macaw or a green cheeked conure...just wondering because you've mentioned a dog cage that would be large enough for a GW macaw, but that same cage might well have bar spacing that would let even the largest GCC climb out between the cage bars.....

I've decided on a GCC because Greenwings are just a little over my budget right now, I would have to spend about 1,000 on all the supplies and such and the cheapest Greenwings around me are 2,000. I can easily take care of a GCC without any money issues. And yes I bought a large aviary with half inch bar spacing for my green cheek.

Lucky you!!!! So exciting, just loads of patience... post a pic when you get him home!!

Unless he's scared senseless when you first take him home, I'd strongly suggest holding him for at least 20 minutes before you put him in the cage. That way he knows that being with you is a 'safe place' and it'll be easier to take him out later. Congrats on the new baby and good luck!
