Getting Mickey to step up?

Ok so this just maybe the stupidest question in the forum... BUT I must ask. So I've had Mickey for a week now and he still isn't stepping up when asked. If he sees that I have a peanut he will get as close to me as he can without actually touching me. Also when I do present my hand or arm to him, he bows down as if he's trying to trick me into getting bit. And it's kind of discouraging
So here's the stupid question...
Will Mickey tell me when he is ready to step up? Whenever I try to get him to do it and he does his little head down trick, I just back away and leave him alone.. Should I not be doing this? I don't want to force him but I want him to eventually want to come out and hang out around the house

Can you give a bit more information about Mickey? How old, etc.
posting a video of this behavior would help a lot because i can imagine a few things with your wording. If he puts his head down and you back away that's teaching him that if he does that you back off.

Birds can sense fear/anxiety wayyy more than dogs can, They can sense your heart rate rise and see the blood rush to your face. Do your best to ignore your fears and just go in for the kill. Remember, birds will use their beak to test the surface they are going to step on for sturdiness. And in MY personal opinion. This is MY opinion. Its not a bite unless there is broken skin/blood. Birds are powerful. Don't let them intimidate you though. Fast movements will frighten them, and hesitation will make them cautious.

Here is an excellent video that applies to any size parrot. Everyones method is different but this is a great place to start. And remember, Never punish your bird. They never forget a bad experience, and it is hard/takes time to undo anything youve done to scare them, especially a new bird that doesn't know or trust you very much. Always use positive reinforcement. verbal praise, treats for any behavior that you prefer. Slow and Steady, it will take TIME. especially a new bird.
