Ok, I have a question for all you experts. This is our second summer with Basil. Last summer, when we went to the lake for a few days, I left him with my parents (kids and I went to the lake, left husband at home, Basil went to Grammie's so husband wouldn't have to take care of him. Grammie loves him more anyway).
This year I would like to take Basil with us. We would put him in his little cage for the drive but pack his great big cage so he would have his home once we were there. I am still debating whether to clip him again. He's fully flighted now and that would bring a whole set of risks while at the lake. But that is not my question.
The weather can get cold at the lake and we are heated only with a woodstove. The cottage is about 700 square feet and I would move Basil away if we needed to make a fire for warmth. My question is this: is his respiratory system too delicate to be exposed to a fire in a 700 square foot cottage? Even if he was moved away from the woodstove? I really want to have him there with us but of course I do not want to put him at risk. We may not even need to have a fire. It could be unbearably hot. You just never know.
Thanks!
