Parrots
New owner of rescued Quaker Parrot, now named Jarvis.
Nice to meet everyone, as it were.

I'm a long time fan of Parrots, and have just rescued a sadly neglected Male Quaker Parrot. I heard about his situation and couldn't bear to let him stay in that situation, so he's found his forever home with myself and my daughter.

Suffice it to say, I'll have a lot of questions, and I'll be looking for advice. I hope I can count on the community for help!

Thanks in advance!

Hey there!!! :D I think you'll like the forums and you'll meet lots of helpful people on here!!!!! :D :grey: what is your Quakers name? How has he been? :D

Literally, I just got him tonight. About 4 hours ago now. He's been relatively quiet, understandably. We're naming him "Jarvis" because his other name, "AJ" A) SUCKS, and B) may be associated with the trauma he's been through. And aside from being ignored and general neglect, I don't know all the details.

He's been plucking, this much I know, under his wings, and I'm told there's a lot of scar tissue, so he can't spread his wings completely to fly. Pity, if true. I'm taking him to the vets in a week or so (I want to give him time to get acclimated here and feel safe again, before I inflict a vet on him.)

Once we got him moved in and back in his cage, he retreated to the rear for a bit, and we went about our business of dinner, etc. I kept an eye on him, and, after a few little squawks, he moved to the front of his cage and was watching us. I took this as a good sign, and, even though we're told to leave them be for a few days, I decided to offer him a shelled peanut. He moved to the halfway point of his cage and ate each half as I offered it. I offered him my hand, but he became defensive so I left him alone.

The rest of the night gave me a few more squawks, tiny ones, and him observing the place in action. I'm encouraged. Pictures on the morrow.

Hi welcome! You've come to the right place for lots of advice and answers, and sometimes laughter too :). Have fun browsing the forums, and don't hesitate to ask away or chime in on threads.

Best of luck to you. :) and I love the name, Jarvis.. how cool would it be to get another bird and name him Iron Man? :D :D I hope everything will go well with him and flying. It's very considerate of you to give him time before going to a vet, that will be something I'll take into consideration the next time I get another birdy. :)
