So, Merlin has been throwing up today, not regurgitating, but throwing up. He was also behaving quite 'odd'... just something wasn't right about him. So I took him to the local non avian vet (just around the corner) after having a breakdown on the phone to the receptionist. I took him there just incase there was something so blindingly obvious wrong with him that they could fix. They said they couldn't see anything unusual, but wanted to refer me to an exotics spe******t. I declined and said I'd rather be referred to an Avian spe******t in Knutsford (for all those in the UK
).
£40 taxi fare round trip and a very expensive and tearful day and we're home with Merlin who's on some antibiotics and is on noodles and water until tomorrow. (Easy on his digestive system).
120g, good 'fat' reserves, good feathering, nice and bright, chatty and playful. etc. with just a good 'nippy' attitude when needed.
Vet was very happy with him overall and just suspected that he had some crop irritation causing him to vomit. However he has put him on antibiotics for the next 5 days and I'm to ring the vet tomorrow and let him know how Merlin's doing. He hasn't thrown up since however, so all is looking well
He has had his claws trimmed (yey for me, nay for Merlin as he's not struggling to stick to things
) and I got to meet their Senegal 'Frankie', who is beautiful, she has such fantastic feathers and she's a real sneaky witch - leaning for head scritches but oh I knew better than to fall for it! (I saw the vets war wounds!).
It's been a good but traumatic day - but one of those days that remind me just how much I love my baby and how I'd do anything to make sure he was okay. Some days I get very annoyed with Merlin's behaviour or screaming etc, especially when I'm having a very bad day with my illness "why did I get him?", but then he just does something so redeeming like give me a cuddle and all of the bad stuff just melts away. He's been so brilliant with his behaviour since moving house last Saturday, I can't help but think that he likes this place too.
So yeah, good day, bad day, Merlin's fine, my purse however is not, he's sat in his cage eating noodles like a good boy after taking his medicine like a trooper.
