Do you hang out with a Yellow Nape Amazon ? You know that begging sound they make? It's not just yours that does that. It's that sound they make when they want something," I want to go downstairs and yell/scream with the other birds" or" i want to come upstairs and help you with dinner".You know the sound,,"Is that butter on that toast?", " can i have some,,,please?". Napes seem to be a tighter group as a species (and the OWAs) then other species of amazons. They seek out interaction with other members of their own species, more so than most of the amazons. That same "begging" sound is used to greet other YNs, of course they act like they want to together but usually just want to fight. You've got to love em.

I know it well. My new one doesn't do it so much yet but he just started to make a sound that's very familar to me from my other YN. Its a scratching sort of sound. I can't really explain it and I don't know what it means but my YN used to do it constantly and I noticed Rico doing it today when I let him out of his cage and his eyes were pinning when he did it. It almost sounds like they have a hairball in their throat if that makes any sense. I don't think it was a sign of aggression - I think its a sign of pleasure because he came and asked for a scratch right after that. These birds are so complex and so fun!

Jake makes that scratchy sound when she can't mimic the sound of something she likes. She wants to be vocal but doesn't know how to do it,so she makes that scratching sound.

I wish I have a nape but too bad too expensive to get in Indonesia
