Green Cheeks for sale-healthy?

Hello!
I'm new to this forum, and hope to soon bring home a green cheek conure baby. I contacted a breeder who sent pictures of two normal green males, and both of the darlings look very cute. I haven't had any previous experience with birds, and I was just wondering: What are some ways I can tell if they're healthy before I bring one of them home?

There is no sure way to tell if the bird will be healthy, as birds are very good at hiding any signs of sickness. So even if you bring home a bright happy baby, there could still be problems. The only way to know for sure is to take your bird to an avian vet when you bring them home.

First off congrats on your soon adoption. From the pics they look ok. To me they look like 5-6 weeks of age??? But yes do take them to a vet. I adopted my Sun conure Charlie at 3 weeks of age and have been raising him since. Last week I thought he was old enough to see a vet just to get a clear bill of health. Come to find out he had a throat infection. Birds hide illnesses well. Charlie is doing great now. He is on meds and has a follow up in a few days.

Ask the breeder if there is any health guarantee and what it is. If there is, taking your bird to an avian vet for fecal and blood work within the time frame specified by the breeder. If your bird is healthy, then it'll be your money spent out of your own pocket. If your bird is not healthy, then the breeder should be willing to either refund your money or cover the cost of vet bills. However, they might only be willing to cover part of the bill and not all of it.


A good breeder would not be in business if they kept selling sick chicks with health guarantees.
