2 male cockatiels
I have a 2ish year old male cockatiel and he has green inside his nostrils. I took both my male cockatiels to the vet and I told her about stormy’s nostril being green and she said she could not see it. it was only one of them but this morning I see both are green!(I went to the vet a week ago) Could it be the green crinkle paper in the cage that he is always chewing? At the vet she said something was off with both their nostrils that could be as simple as the cold but could be worse. I got nose drops and did them for 5 days like she said and some nutrient stuff to put on their food but they have not got worse or better. Both are acting fine otherwise and not losing weight. They are on a diet of chop and pellets (Harrison’s/roudybush)

The vet also said they were both a health weight

Probably just some chop juice rubbed off onto their nostrils. Happens to my birds all the time.

That’s what I would normally think because he always has a messy chop face but it’s been like this for almost 2 weeks!
Than it's probably just gunk., not uncommon in tiels. Try swabbing it out with a Q-tip, or giving them a bath.

Ok I will they don’t really like being bathed but enjoy just hanging out in the bathroom while the shower is on. Will that be ok or should I see if they would like a mist bath?

Also to see the green in their nose you have to click on the picture

It really differs depending on the individual. Try misting, bathing under the sink, using a water bowl, etc.

Ok thank you! I’ve tried all of that and the only time they will do any of that is if I catch them bathing in their water bowl and mist them (then they love it). But if they don’t bath in their bowl first it won’t happen unless in the shower. I will try a few things and if they don’t want a bath I’ll just bring them in the shower (but not put them in the water of course I don’t want to force it)

If the green in his nose continues and doesn’t ever go away is that concerning or ok

I don’t think my vet lets you text pictures. I texted the number but I’m not very close with them.

Also they have bathed multiple times while having the green stuff in his nose and it hasn’t come out.

A good soaking bath in the shower, then trying the nose drops?

It sounds like it's really stuck in there and you could always try flushing the sinuses... however, I would not recommend trying this without physical instructions.

You could try running the vacuum in the room then misting them as well. Might work to get them in the mood to bathe, but I'm not sure a mist bath would be enough moisture.

I’ll try to bath them in the shower I think that’s my best bet for bathing. The vet said she could flush the sinuses but would rather try nose drops first.

Good luck!

I brought them in the shower and gave them a mist. After that I used a q-tip to gently swab his nose but no luck. I put nose drops in but his nose is still very green.

The vet also gave me this to put on their food

After he’s dry I noticed one of the nostrils turned white (could be dust) but the other nostril is still green.
