Greetings from Buttonquailboi.

Welcome to the forum!!! :)

Welcome! Have you tried eating the fruit in front of your bird? He/She may want it if they see you eating it.

Greetings! My 'tiels are fussy as well, but just keep offering as you eat and sooner or later they will decide to try some. One of my 'tiels readily takes the fruit from my hand but the other one has always been a bit shy about taking food from my hand, but will eat if I place in their bowl.

I always eat first what I am offering Mishka. I take a bite, then offer him.
If he refuses I try again later and later and later.
Still no success, I place the food item in a plate, seat him nearby, begin to eat it myself, then 9 out of 10 times, he is so curious, he investigates and mostly begins to eat it.

I remember when I changed his pellets OMG I had to first eat them yuuckkkk but it worked

Lol antoinette! I am switching Rio over from the pellets he was getting at the breeders, to a brand that I can buy here. I pretended to eat the pellets. You are brave for taking a bite yourself!

The parrot was my brother's class pet, and it's actually my mom's currently, since I'm under 18, I cannot move out. He had junk food in the classroom fed to him by the students. He's 16 years old, which is old for a bird. So, yes, the aviary I was planning would be worked on by my parents with me. I'm not sure if I would want to eat fruit with him, since my saliva could be poison to him.

My kids though I was losing my marbles, but it honestly worked.
The pellets tasted like dog food (I think) never eaten dog food.

True, you don't want them to ingest your saliva. But I meant you would eat some fruit, and then offer the bird another piece of the same fruit, but not the piece you've been chewing on.

You show him that fruit is safe and meant to be eaten by letting him see you eat the fruit. This is true for other things like new toys. Teach him by being a role model.
