"Larry" - GCC
Greetings from sunny Minnesota where the sledding and snowmen don't have to end just because it's summer!

I was drawn to this forum when I did a Google search about what types of treats to feed our new Green Cheek Conure - "Larry".

We are brand new to bird owning and open to any and all advice. I am sure I will gather monumental amounts of great info just by browsing these forums daily.

Thanks for having us!

The Tingelstads.

Welcome to the forum.....you can find a lot of information & experience around here.....actually you'll get better responses by just asking questions than you will asking for tips, unless there might already be a thread topic for the tips.....

Congrats on Larry.....

Welcome to the forum! I am owned by two GCC's and they love almonds and walnuts. I break the almonds into quarters and provide them as treats and give small chunks of walnuts too but not as often. Over the last two years and lots of time and patience my babies will eat virtually all the fruits and veggies I provide. They have grown to love broccoli and celery which are also very healthy.

Hello from a neighbor to your west in South Dakota. I don't have conures but can commiserate over the snow! The lake outside my front door still has 30 inches of ice. Its no longer funny. I'm just across the MN/SD border.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Very pretty little gcc. You have my sympathies on the snow and ice which is why we relocated to Fla 5 years ago:D

Hello! I've never been to Minnisota but I have been to north and souh Dakota next door. You have some pretty tough winters. Where I live in California our summer never ends D: sure, it gets cold and the nighttime lows may get below freezing. We have the occasional cold front(40ish degrees at day time) that makes us all put on our warmest jackets and make actual cold states laugh at.

Your green cheek is so cute! They are great little birds who think they are bigger than they really are, and full if affection.

Welcome to the form. I am also in good ole FROZEN MN. Although today is sunny and the snow is melting it is still too cold to take Valentino outside. Right now he is having a conversation with his bells while I am working in my office. He has cabin fever and frankly so do I.

Will Spring ever come?

Will it ever get warm again?

I just want to be able to turn back on the outside spicket and power wash Valentino's cage outside. Until the night time lows are above freezing I can't even think of turning back on the water flow to the outside faucet.

Valentino came to me in December. I have yet to take this bird outside since the day I took him to the vet (4 days after he came home) I once saw a blue and gold in a sweater in San Fran. It was freezing outside but I guess the parrot was warm enough in his sweater. I am not going to put clothes on Valentino just so I can take him outside. I don't have anything large enough for him anyway.

Welcome to the forum. And welcome to you Larry, you are a cutie! :)

I live in hot (bleep) Texas, but we do get the cold winds off the plains which cat send our temps into the teens & even to the negatives, where there's nothing to stop it from blowing right in from Canada.:( It just never lasts long. I have been in you state while the winds when my hubby drove a truck. I had two toy poodles, we got out to walk them one night, the winds were super cold. I had a long sleeve shirt on, a jacket & my heaviest coat on & I still felt like I was out there with nothing on. Cold wasn't the word for it to say the least. And the poodles were through in record time. :red1:
