Echo my 3 months old green cheek sometimes makes those low ducky noises, it sounds a bit like low soft duck quacks. I have the feeling that he does that when he's grumpy or not liking a situation. This often happens when it's time for bed for him (I always make sure he has 12 hours of sleep every night). But he also does it sometimes in the evening and then it looks like he's tired and that he doesn't know what he wants because of it.

This evening he was making those sounds again, and I thought it was good for him to go to sleep. I was just in the kitchen to change his water for the night and to bring it to Echo's night cage in the bedroom. He has a smaller cage for the nights in a different room. While I was in the kitchen Echo was sitting on his play stand in the living room. When I came out of the kitchen Echo wasn't on his play stand anymore and I didn't see him anywhere. Which never happened before, he's always on his stand or on top of his bigger cage. Then I suddenly heard a noice coming from the bedroom so I went there, and there was Echo sitting on his night cage. It was like he was telling me that he wanted to go to sleep now. He never goes to the bedroom by himself. Do you think this was just a coincidence? Or is he that smart already, that he let me know that it was time for him to go to sleep?

All I can add is that the Rbird makes low, raspy, womp-womp noises when roosting up for a nap, or at night...

Sounds like Echo has learned the routine and doing a little helping. Be interesting if he does it again. You could ask him to fly to his cage when you go fetch water?

Yes he is that smart already; and also my GCC does the same grunting noises. I thought he just picked it up from me grunting, only I thought of it more as a "Yosemite Sam" from looney toons noise. Sometimes he will grunt grunt grunt and it's so funny. Sometimes I think he's actually cussing me out like the cartoon.

sounds to me like beak grinding. Rio made the noise whenever he was nodding off. It's a really nice noise to hear, it means they're happy and content ready for a nice long sleep. The fact he flew to the sleep cage is really good he knows that's where he goes for sleepy time

No it's not beak grinding. I know what beak grinding sounds like and he does that often as well when he's relaxed. Pilaf always did that too when we snuggled and when he was falling asleep. This sound is more vocal than that. Sound like quacking.

Yeah he already knows and he lets us know when he wants to go to bed :)

my JoJo makes the same sounds, but I interpret it as contentment!

With clark it's also not beak grinding....it's more grr grr grr I want to this or that....or maybe "I hate you I never get to anything fun" even though we just spent an hour playing soccer with his ball.

My GCC baby does the same thing. It sounds like duck quacks, frog noises or crickets to me. Other times he does a noise that sounds like "erp erp", haha. I think it's funny. Yes, he does do it when he is cranky too. But my little guy flys to his cage as soon as 8:00pm hits, he is done for the day. They are smart little things!
