Guitar Strings

I liked google's doodle today, and so did Bob when I played with it. I want to build Bob a "guitar" to play with and was wondering if guitar strings were dangerous. They will be tied down tightly and so I do not see Bob swallowing them.

Most electric guitar strings are made from steel. This steel will rust. You wouldn't let your birdie live in a rusty cage. Don't let him chew on rusty guitar strings either.

Besides, in order to produce a tone, the strings have to be under quite a bit of tension. As a bass player, let me tell you when they snap, they can give your hand quite a whack. I'm pretty sure a cockatiel skull wouldn't stand much of a chance.

That sounds like a good idea. I was not planning on getting him a real guitar, just finding some way to attach strings to a board so he could play with it.

I thought that was free standing string, not sting tied tightly at both ends with very little little give in the middle like a guitar string.

I'm going to say no to the guitar strings. especially the g. it's so thin, if it's tight, I'd be afraid it could snap or cut my birds tongue or foot or that she'd snap the string all together. I agree with the above posts and suggest getting a plastic kids toy one, that takes batteries. I'm getting Lucy a little kid's piano.

Also, string in general is dangerous, it can unravel. Hair can be dangerous too, I saw a bird come in and his foot was infected and literally falling off because his stupid owner didn't realize that her hair was wrapped around his foot for a long LONG time... >: (

You probably are underestimating the destructive ability of a beak. Maybe after you guys get to know each other better, you can judge whether he could play w/o tearing the strings up.

I will abstain from getting him a guitar, but I think he would enjoy an intrument. I will look for a cheep on that he can play with safely. Probably something intended for children.

If you want him to have a guitar, the string can be rough, dangerous, and they snap easily. I suggest getting a ukulele, but always supervise him if he wants to pluck the strings!
