Alice - Galah cockatoo
Lovely calm evening to report, and decided it was time to get some glamour shots. She's chilling out on top of the cage at the minute and looking nice and relaxed. I'll work out how to get her down after dinner...

There was a gangster called Pinky in Brighton Rock, but not sure he's a appropriate role model for a parrot! Alice's original name was Rosie, but as she doesn't respond to the name Rosie and my sister does, I decided a change might be appropriate. I don't think she's been called by name for the best part of six months anyway.

She's getting braver by the hour, bless her, everything at her own pace but she's powering about the top half of the cage and keeps coming up to the open ledge at the top. Most of the time she just chews my finger for a couple of second and goes back in but she's stepped up a few times and come out for some attention.

Nice shots. She is adorable.

We have a pink boy too. He is named Dante. I didn't know what to name him so I turned to my online pen pals who suggested Dante (stating that he needed a manly name for his pink self :p).

Great pics, i have a male Mollucan , which has a pink tint to him. His name is Addison, name he came with and he still answers to it. ( When he feels like it LOL )

Couple more to add...

Been a week today now and I think we're making progress. It's always three steps forward and two back, and always disheartening when the two steps back inevitably come just before bed and we end the day on a low, but there are definate signs of progress. She'll allow a small amount of direct contact in the form of head massages and play confidently if the cage bars are between us - sometimes this means me sticking my top half inside the cage whilst she's outside which must be something of a bizarre spectacle!

She won't step up when she's in or on the cage yet, so I'm leaving her to it, playing with her in the cage when she's bright and responsive and hoping she'll come out when she's ready. She still has phases of looking stessed and miserable, and I think she tires herself out easily, but the good bits are lasting a little longer each day. She has noticably more pin feathers than she did last week, and a couple of new feathers on the clipped wing are poking through, and everything I've read suggests a moult would add to her being tired and grumpy anyway.

She seems to love visitors are well - I'd advised people to steer clear for a little while so she could settle in, but the couple of occasions someone has come round she gets really bouncy and keen for attention so I'm now encouraging people to come and meet her!

Anyway, pictures, figuring out how to open her cage when I'm not in and checking out what I was having for dinner (she does this without fail when I sit down with food - I with she showed the same enthusiasm when I try to get her to eat vegetables)

She is adorable.

I am a big galah fan. I love ours SO MUCH!!!

I am glad to read the progress. Thinking about it, Dante (our galah) came to us friendly and sociable from day1. He knows no shyness which didn't make us work on anything similar. Now though, I have a couple new lovebirds who are not tamed. I can see the difference when needing to tame. I am in a similar boat of trying to win my two lovebirds' trust as you are. The good news for u is, galahs can be friends with you quicker than lovebirds ;) all the best of luck.

You could call him Grey.
Or Graham.
Or Greystoke.
Or Pinkerton.
Or Pinky. (Nah - not Pinky).

Ours were called Aloysius, Ignatius, Francis and Dominic (can you see a pattern in all that?) LOL!

We've been coming on leaps and bounds in the last few days - it's still a challenge but it feels like I'm now at a difficulty level I was expecting and am comfortable with.

She still likes the safety of the cage but regularly comes down to my level and asks to be picked up, just for a few minutes then she wants to go back but it's progress. She's getting cheeky as well, trying to steal food off my dinner plate and expressing an unhealthy interest in my laptop (this morning she made off along the couch with the Z key in her beak!) so I think we're getting there. She loves having other people visit the house as well and adores my Mum, which will be good news when the subject of babysitting comes up!

She seems to be something of a night owl: when I've been home during the day she has several naps through the afternoon then she's up and about til 10 and would happily stay up longer - in fact we've had some proper tantrums about not wanting to go to bed when I do. We've got a lot of work to do on diet, which is basically the dry mix the shop had her on bulked up with veg and pasta that I cook with my own dinner and pretend to take off my plate for her and a tiny bit of fruit if she's in the mood. She sorts the content of her food bowl so that anything fresh in there gets dumped, although I keep trying. And training, we need to do some of that! So far all I've done is use the clicker to signify when she's about to get a treat, and to say "up" whenever she makes to step onto my wrist.

But I think it's going ok! I'm already absolutely besotted with her...
