R.I.P Tweeters the Cockatiel<3
I just bought a nice little Happy Hut for my two GCCs. We decided to get one for them to share, since they usually sleep side by side anyways. They aren't cowering in the corner or anything, just ignoring it; I think they're scared. It's only been there for one night, and they don't like it. Shoud I take it out in the daytime so they're cage won't be so scary, or leave it in for them to get used to it? They did run through it for maybe 8 seconds, then left to their normal sleeping area. So, leave it or not?

They just need time to get used to it. You could try hanging it outside their cage, but in sight for a while to let them get used to it. Once it's in the cage, you could try putting some kind of yummy treat inside to entice them to go have a look. :)

I remember when I bought Birdy's Happy Hut I had him in the store with me.
He was absolutely terrified of all the colours except the dark green!

The way I got Birdie used to sleeping in it was to wait till he was tired and it was completely dark. Then as he slept in my hand, I placed him into the Happy Hut. Remembering parrots have terrible vision in the dark, he decided to say instead of risk moving in an unfamiliar space, not to mention it was quite comfortable!

When he woke up in the morning it was like he had been using one all his life!

Thanks for the answers guys. :) Mudkips, maybe it is the color? :11: It's yellow... Hm, maybe. I'll leave it in tomorrow. They never stay in their cage unless I'm out or it's nite nite. Which means they're pretty much out all day lol. :D

The happy huts have always made me nervous, don't they make your birds hormonal(like the hut is replacing a nesting cavity). I've never used one, they seem more like a conure thing though lol.

Well, they're only 3 months old... If they do take a liking to it and become hormonal later on, out the cage it goes. But yah, Happy Huts do seem to be a conure thing. :D

That's exactly right! :p

I wear a jacket with a hood on when I'm using the computer at night. Birdy loves to climb as far back and as high up as he possibly can into my hood. Infact he prefers to have amazingly hard pressure on top of him when he sleeps - say like 2 or 3 times his own body weight! It's so bizzare! :D

ConureCrazy, the brighter the colour the scarier it was for Birdy! Bright Yellow was the worst lol

Wierd! I had a cockatiel named Tweeters that had a foraging toy with a hole the perfect size of the top of his head, he would sleep with it kind of like a hat. Man I don't have a picture! :(

Yeh Damien never acknowledge his, I ended up giving it to my finches, who do sit on it, but not on the perch but, on top of the tent they sleep on LOL!

My Ecky took a while to warm to his. I just left it in his cage and he investigated it eventually. He doesn't have it anymore though because he got his nail stuck in it and was hanging from his foot upside-down panicking. Luckily me and my husband were in, so i could hold and calm him while hubs cut it off his nail.

I have one for Maxx in both his inside and outside cages. He loves them and uses them all the time. He takes a few naps a day on his, and at 8p will climb in and stay there until I uncover him at 7a.

My green cheek loves his. Only uses it at night. My Sun which I have had for a week always backed up to a towel stuck betweeen the bars so I got him a hut but left the towel there just in case. He now gets behind the hut against the towel and seems to love it. That way he doesn't mess up his tail feathers. A couple looked pretty ragged when I got him.

Oh my, I missed só much! I placêsd it in their play gym, which they stay on most of the day, They just took a shower, I think they're acknowledging it as a towel. I will put some millet in the center tonight. :)

Ok, I know this is old already, but I just wanted to say that after 3 nights, Mr. Happy Hut is a towel after showertime and a sleepytime snuggy for Bella and Zora. ;) Victory!

lol..glad they are using it! i have one for my girl...didnt think she would use it but she does...if im quick when i uncover her in the morning shes in it!!! lol

Llol, I'm trying to get a picture of them in it; It's SO HARD without waking them up!

lol..i wish you luck with that.....:D
i think i would have to rig up some sort of night vision camera!!!!
i had love birds that loved their hut...always in it!

I bought one for our blue crown conure when he was 1 1/2 years old. My dad said that he went in it and spent nearly all of two days sleeping it in. He didn't want to leave it at all. Being that he wants to spend time with the bird, he took it away. It was a green one. He cuddles in my husband's and my dad's hair now instead.

My sun conure loves his happy hut! We first tried a yellow one and he proceeded to bite off the ties that hang it, and stomped on it, bite it when it landed on the floor of his cage! He loves only the dark green ones! Go figure! lol It's his safe cuddly place to sleep at night.
