HAPPY MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY!!!

The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. died on April 4, 1968 at the tragically young age of 39. But it is the way he lived that we celebrate, today. He was a man who was not content to accept the world as it was, but instead sought to change it into the kind of world it should be.

He taught us that dreams are not the sole province of children, only to be abandoned in the face of the harsh realities of adulthood. No. Our dreams must be nurtured and encouraged, because it is in those dreams that we find the blueprints for our better natures. The very best versions of who we might be.

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream. And through his sacrifices, and those of many others before and since, that dream still lives on, today. And while there remains work yet to be done, with each day, month, year and decade that passes, we get that much closer to achieving it.

So I'd like to take this moment to wish Martin Luther King Jr. a happy, if belated, birthday. (Today is MLK Day, but his actual date of birth is January 15, 1929.) And to wish each and every one of you a Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Stephen, your words are such a wonderful tribute to him. What a wise and inspiring man he was, and it is heartbreaking to think of how his life was cut so short when he had so much to give. So many people wonder if their lives make a difference in the world, and his legacy shows that one person can make a difference, and inspire others to be better people.

Thank you so much for posting this.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. day to all!

A Very Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Now many years ago (how quickly time flies), I was listening to one of his speeches and I 'HEAR' his words (see above photo) "I have decided to stick with Love. Hate is too great a burden to bear." That day, I elected to stop using the word hate in my thoughts, writings and the most difficult in my verbal words of conversation...

I had believed it to be a simple easy thing to do. To my great surprise, I found it used near everywhere...

My small contribution to this day is to continue to stop hate. Stop its use and by doing so, begin to use Love more...

Thank you Martin! Your words continue to change this World...

Well done, Stephen!

A beautiful tribute to a man who should be remembered and revered as the true visionary he was then and now.

Beautiful quotes and presentation, Stephen. Reverend King's words are as crucial today as they were during his remarkable but sadly short life.

There is no other like him. If he had lived, I think we would be a different world. As it is, we must hold to what he left behind with all our strength.
Thank you, Stephen.

Dr. King spoke at my church, St. Paul's Episcopal in Cleveland Hts., OH in 1963. A huge photo of the occasion hangs in the great hall. I like to recall the day, and I remember feeling, for the first time, like a young man with important things to think about. I was about 14. Thanks for the thread, Stephen.

I've only just seen your post, Stephen, and what a timely one it is! Dr King was a magnificent human being and one whose impact on all of us has been incalculable. I remember the day he died: my Mum cried and sat down to explain to my sister and me that a great man had been taken from us; that it would probably be a long time till someone so wise and compassionate would come along again.

Now, this was in far-away Australia, so you can see how widely Dr King's inspiration had spread, even during his short life.

Therefore, I wish you and all our members a very happy (albeit belated) Martin Luther King Jr Day. XX
