Parrots
Had a Blue Front Amazon. Now have an African Grey (CAG)
I'm looking at the possibility of some international travel, and I'd really prefer to take my CAG with me, but I'm seeing I'd need a certificate to bring her. I know absolutely nothing about this, and I'm not sure if I even can - apparently I'm supposed to be able to document her origin, but her origin to me was a parrot rescue. She doesn't know how to fly, so I've assumed she was bred in captivity, but I can't prove that.

This was way back when I was working. A fellow RN was going abroad and taking her parrot. She'd inherited it. No paperwork was available for origin. She had years of vet records. I don't know (read can't remember) what she actually did. I had a CAG and she was trying to talk me into going with her. My dogs stopped me from following through. Start with the rescue center. There will be some records to begin with. Does your CAT have a closed leg band? That will be proof of domestic bred. Closed bands can only be placed on very young chicks. FYI; Lack of flight isn't a sign of being captive bred. Some birds have physical limitations preventing flight. Others like my fully flight capable CAG prefer to climb and walk.

No band at all, and she has no injuries - she's physically capable of flight - but flying scares her. She's only done it once, in the back yard and she flew in a straight line, right into a bush. Fortunately no injuries. She's never left my hand since then, when we're outside. When she's excited she flaps her wings, and she would get lift, but she keeps an iron grip on my hand.

I don't think she'd ever been outside before I got her, she was freaked out by everything, but now she loves it. Demands to be taken outside several times a day.
